In a proverb from the 16th century some man said that ‘Beauty is only skin deep’ and in my humble opinion, he was only partially correct.

But beauty is important and we all like to be surrounded by beauty and beautiful things. Skin, now that is a different matter altogether. We would all like to have smooth, even toned, flawless skin which does not need any make up or correction, but that is not the case in daily life.

We live in South Africa on the African continent and it is sunny here. Our leisure time is mostly spent outdoors, even if it is just sitting on the patio or veranda at home where there is a bit of a breeze during the heat of summer. And sun exposure has a severe effect on the skin, especially facial skin. When we play sport, it is mostly in sunshine and for those with a light skin colour, that could mean sunburn and skin damage. For those with a dark skin colour it takes a bit longer, but there will be skin damage as well in the end. Especially darker skin blemishes.

Skin Blemishes

Skin ageing and blemishes are mostly caused by systematic sun exposure. The Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment
